Part 2: The Hackathon

On October 17, 63 selected participants will gather at SVL to form nine teams while being guided by IBM mentors and evaluated by SJSU and IBM executive judges. They will design and prototype AI solutions while gaining hands-on experience with generative AI and addressing the challenges through the lens of ethical AI design and ensuring a focus on transparency, fairness, inclusivity and privacy.
This collaborative event is more than a competition. It’s a chance to develop problem-solving skills, build teamwork and learn from experts in the field.

Hackathon Challenges

#1 Student Concierge

It can sometimes be hard to navigate college resources as a college student, especially when you’re a freshman. Sometimes you can look up FAQs and get what you need, but sometimes you don’t even know what the right questions are.
Can you leverage public University resources to show how technology could help simplify the student experience?

#2 Research Assistant

Being a university researcher is no simple feat. You need to balance classes, assignments, grants, deadlines and policies… so many policies. Pages and pages filled with policies.
Can you leverage public University resources to show how technology could help distill complex policy requirements for researchers?
