The journey begins two weeks before the hackathon with a virtual AI learning path. It is comprised of 3-5 hours of content, including a live (recorded) webinars and self-paced modules to prepare you for the challenge. By completing the learning path, you’ll earn industry-recognized IBM digital credentials and unlock the opportunity to be selected for the in-person hackathon.
The learning plan is open to all SJSU students, faculty, and administrators, and can be completed even if you don’t plan to participate in the hackathon.

On October 17, 63 selected participants will gather at SVL to form nine teams while being guided by IBM mentors and evaluated by SJSU and IBM executive judges. They will design and prototype AI solutions while gaining hands-on experience with generative AI and addressing the challenges through the lens of ethical AI design and ensuring a focus on transparency, fairness, inclusivity and privacy.
This collaborative event is more than a competition. It’s a chance to develop problem-solving skills, build teamwork and learn from experts in the field.
